3rd Malaysian Conference and Exhibition
Dr James Stoxen DC Speaks at the 3rd Annual Malaysian Anti-aging Conference and Exhibition
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 29 May 1, 2, 2006
Dr James Stoxen DC was invited to address the 300+ delegates of the 3rd Malaysian Conference and Exhibition on Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine, 29th April – 1st May 2006, at the Sheraton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

PRESENTATION 1 - "Abnormal walking mechanics the abnormal biomechanics of walking that can cause a rapid acceleration of the aging process. Effective diagnosis, treatment and prevention of 15 arthritic conditions related to abnormal walking biomechanics."

A particular abnormal walking technique described as “over Pronation Syndrome or “Destructive foot” as its nicknamed, “In the scientific literature, has been linked to more than 10 arthritic conditions which prematurely age the frame and cause a serious strain on all the body’s systems. Not only that but Stoxen states that since we walk every day over 10,000 steps the abnormal mechanics release a steady flow of inflammation which soaks your bodies tissues and this inflammation has been found to be a form of toxic soup.

“Inflammation” is the process by which the body responds to injury. Laboratory evidence and findings from clinical and population studies suggest that inflammation is important in atherosclerosis. This is the process in which fatty deposits build up in the lining of arteries. This accelerates the aging process. Systemic inflammation has been linked to not only a higher risk for heart attack and stroke but also Alzheimer’s disease, parkonism, diabetes, obesity and other systemic diseases of accelerated aging. C-reactive protein (CRP) is one of the acute phase proteins that increase during systemic inflammation. It’s been suggested that testing CRP levels in the blood may be a new way to assess cardiovascular disease risk. A high sensitivity assay for CRP test (hs-CRP) is now widely available and will be discussed by Dr Bill Anton, a clinical and nutritional biochemist from Melbourne, Australia, also a presenter at the anti-aging conference this weekend.

The American Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently published a joint scientific statement about using inflammatory markers in clinical and public health practice. This statement was developed after systematically reviewing the evidence of association between inflammatory markers (mainly CRP) and coronary heart disease and stroke.

Dr Stoxen, president of Team Doctors Treatment and Training Centers, became the first chiropractor to address the main floor of 4500 medical physicians in Las Vegas, over 400 physicians at the famous Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok Thailand and at the Royal College of Physicians in London England.

He has also accepted invitations to speak at international conferences in Taipei, Tokyo, Vienna, Bejing and Madrid, a request that is rarely asked of a chiropractor.  Over 200 top professional athletes, Broadway performers and famous celebrity top recording artists have visited Dr Stoxen for this new treatment method this year alone including Backstreet Boys tours, Michael Flatelys Celtic Tiger, Aerosmith tour and Alicia Keys tours.

Pronation Syndrome, fallen arches or and excessive “rolling inward” of the ankle and arch has been linked in the scientific literature to numerous conditions such as bunions, plantar fascitis, heel spurs, shin splints, calf cramps, knee pain and arthritis, chondromalacia patella, hip pain and arthrosis, back pain and arthritis and chronic fatigue.  The feet are the foundation of what we call the kinematic chain so when abnormal movement occurs and left untreated over the years, it leads to a process of wear and tear often limiting necessary age reversing exercise.

What's worse he states is that exercise which is one of the best anti-aging remedies, with a frame with even subtle aberrations of movement can actually accelerate the aging process in the body's systems.   Calf cramps caused by abnormal mechanics of walking can slow the venous return of blood back to the heart and combined with the lack of exercise seen with these patients can cause an incredible strain on the body's system primarily the heart and circulatory system.

There is a profound paradigm shift going on right now in medicine, and it's the adoption of anti-aging methods to make medical practice more effective and pro-active. Anti-aging medicine is based on the early detection, prevention and reversal of age-related disease.

Dr Stoxen answering questions of the delegates after his presentation

Dr. Stoxen, a chiropractor and director of Team Doctors Treatment and Training Center in Chicago, uses biomechanics a science of combining engineering with biology, to study movements of the hundreds of national and world champions athletes, he has worked with to determine risk factors to injury as well as improved performance.  “Through a careful analysis of patients for the more simple abnormal mechanics can detect stresses, strains and abnormal movements on joints before any symptoms can even be seen in the patient.

This method of patient care provides doctors with the earliest detection of degenerative arthritic conditions available. Early intervention with the treatment techniques I have developed will allow the doctors to correct these common abnormal movement patterns to reduce the widespread stresses on multiple joints and body systems before any signs or symptoms can occur.  This is the true essence of what anti-aging medicine is about.

He states that after examining over 100,000 backs and 200,000 feet that he has noticed that the pattern of abnormal biomechanics of overpronation and the pattern of abnormal biomechanics of lower back pain are virtually identical and are almost a direct correlation.  He is even prepared to make a statement to the medical physicians attending the convention that he feels that in his clinical experience that he feels that overpronation and its sister condition, oversupination are the principle risk factor for chronic mechanical lower back conditions.  Dr Stoxen has never sent a patient for lower back surgery in 18 years and that includes patients with mild, moderate and even severe herniated discs.  We now get approximately 20 “surgery cases” a month referred from medical physicians and the most commonly overlooked reason for the back failing to heal is the pronation syndrome.  After treating the pronation syndrome within 2 – 3 weeks these patients who normally would have had surgery are pain free and working out with weights.

In his address to the medical community at the conference, Dr. Stoxen will present his treatment program, which is unlike any care program currently employed.  “It has been thought that the arch could never be rebuilt.  That is no longer true. He will educate the doctors on his new and unique methods of the way he completely rebuilds the arch of the foot by hand. He will also discuss advancement in training shoe design to stabilize the heel in walking thus limiting overpronation.  He will also show video of rehabilitation and training techniques he has developed for strengthening the rebuilt arch.  “This new foot reconstruction method is far more effective, enhances function and is more permanent than the current use of analgesics and orthodics which are only temporary and helpful when the inserts are employed” Stoxen exclaims. By reversing the overpronation syndrome, you can reverse numerous arthritic conditions, which will slow, stop and even reverse the effects of aging on the patient.

He has seen the causes and effects of lower-extremity issues in patients of all kinds, and this has only strengthened his conviction that his methods can play a vital role in anti-aging medicine today.

PRESENTATION 1

"Abnormal walking mechanics the abnormal biomechanics of walking that can cause a rapid acceleration of the aging process. Effective diagnosis, treatment and prevention of 15 arthritic conditions related to abnormal walking biomechanics."

ABSTRACT:
Diet and exercise are the two most important anti-aging tools of the physician and patient to reverse the aging process. When exercise of walking with abnormal biomechanics causes degenerative joint disease and chronic inflammation it puts the body in a catabolic state. Instead of walking slowing the aging process it accelerates it. Because the feet are the very foundation from which all other joints align, it is easy to understand why even subtle faulty biomechanics of the lower extremities – principally, I maintain, excessive pronation of the feet – can cause a domino effect of stresses and strains on every joint of the body, literally from toe to head. This in turn will predispose a patient to an acceleration of the aging process that can include advanced arthritis, and can affect myriad muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. What this means is that treatment of a great number of musculoskeletal problems is simply not complete unless the practitioner has considered faulty biomechanics of the feet, ankles and lower leg as the root cause. In many cases where medicine is prescribed to cover pain, the practitioner has not looked at lower-extremity biomechanics.
PRESENTATION 2

"Exercise prescription to slow, stop and possibly reverse the aging process."

ABSTRACT:
SINCE Ancient times, healers have recognized the curative power of physical activity. Scientific evidence proves that exercise has the ability to heal. Traditional Healers, Eastern Healers, Western Healers Alternative and Conventional Healers agree that specific types of Exercise can help prevent illness. Physical activity can help some diabetics come off insulin and some hypertensives quit their high-blood pressure medication. Lowers cholesterol, decreases arthritis pain, reduces depression, reduces stress and anxiety, and improves breathing. Exercise helps the heart pump blood, fill lungs with oxygen, increase metabolism to burn fat, improves immune function. It’s a safe inexpensive, self-care strategy to help prevent, relieve and cure disease therefore it can aid in slowing, stopping and reversing the effects of aging. Can slow the aging process and boost length and quality of life.
