A look at Davids career with Team Doctors

Four years of work came to an amazing climax that night for David Diaz and Dr James Stoxen DC from Team Doctors Treatment and Training Center.

Diaz came to Team Doctors in the midpoint of his career. He had just got started back into boxing when he stepped back in the ring and completely tore his achilles tendon .  He got the surgery at Northwestern Hospital and continued with rehabilitation there.  After rehabilitation was completed he still could not run like he was used to and consulted with Team Doctors for the rehab.  Dr Stoxen treated and rehabilitated Davids Achilles tendon area and went through the rest of his body rebuilding the areas which needed attension.

Dr Stoxen beleives that if an exercise is important for rehab then it should be included in everyday strength and condtioning.  Diaz went from active rehabilitation seemlessly into the active strength and conditioning Stoxen recomended.  During that time from

On 6 - 2006, David asked Team Doctors to help him train for his title fight with Jose Armando Santa Cruz in Las Vegas on 8 - 12 - 2006.  Dr Stoxen used the same strength and conditioning training approach but added more training for the feet and legs with more emphysis on balance training.  He also gave David a nutritional suppliment program to help him get the power and speed as well as make weight.

David improved his speed and power rapidly and made weight one week before the big fight which was very important as this was a title fight and you must make weight or you dont get the belt.

The result of the fight was David Diaz won the WBC interim lightweight title Saturday night with a stunning 10th-round knockout of Jose Armando Santa Cruz.  According to the announcers, they had Diaz loosing all nine rounds and the cards showed David behind in 3 and 5 cards.  As Dr Stoxen watched, he felt that even though Diaz threw and landed less punches and appeared to be behind in the scoring, the heavier blows to Jose Armando Santa Cruz body were taking their toll.

In round 10, manager Jim Strickland said to Diaz in the corner, we need a few knock downs in the next round at least as you are behind in this fight.  Diaz came out in round 10 with excellent power, speed and endurance and abruptly floored the champion (23-2) twice in the 10th. Another flurry forced referee Richard Steele to stop the fight with 40 seconds left in the round.

This was a sweet victory for Diaz and a celebration to the career Diaz and Stoxen have had over the last 4 years together.

It feels great to be a part of this historical event in Chicago boxing history.  Im proud that for what ever reason, luck or skill that we have maintained a perfect win record and even better, a perfect knockout record with all of Davids fights we have been involved with the strength and conditioning.  Dr Stoxen
