The Chicago Golden Gloves Championship bouts are April 9, 10 and 11, and while gyms like Windy City and Garfield Park boast healthy competitive rivalries, what is common among them is where they send their top athletes for treatment of injuries as well as strength and conditioning training. Seven of Dr. James Stoxen’s patients will be vying to be Chicago Golden Gloves Champions. Dr. Stoxen, President of Team Doctors, Rehab, Treatment, Strength and Conditioning Center, is an award-winning chiropractor, public speaker, fitness writer and 10-year member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Muscle & Fitness Magazine. His Chicago-based Team Doctors Treatment Centers have treated or trained over 35 of the top boxers in Chicago and worldwide, helping them recover from injuries, stay in fighting shape and add real, functional speed and strength without adding body mass. In other words you don’t get bulky and big.
Team Doctors has a full private training center for select patients like yourself. This is so advanced you will get results. This is not like Ballys or Powerhouse where you walk around without direction. In this kind of center it becomes a social hour, you don’t make progress and soon you quit because you are discouraged by the lack of results.
Diet and Nutrition and Ergogenic Training Aids: what you need to know
Dr Stoxen has written numerous articles on diet and nutrition and has helped numerous already knowledgeable top athletes loose weight to make it into weight classes for boxing, wrestling and weightlifting. If you just want to shed some pounds to look and feel good for the summer and your future he can help you.
Boxing-inspired training for fitness enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels

has organized and given more than 1,000 live presentations on health and fitness. Earlier this year was asked to present his unique treatment rehabilitation and training techniques to 3,000 doctors and scientists at the International Congress of American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. He has consulted with over 1,000 nationally ranked athletes of a variety of sports and has been on assignment with athletes at more than 60 national and world championship sports events, in addition to the assignments as the attending chiropractor backstage for shows attending to the performers at Chicago’s theatres for the performing arts, But one of the most dynamic areas of his practice is his treatment and training methods of top boxers.
A quote from a United States, Olympian!
Chicago junior welterweight David Diaz is a former U.S. Olympian, a Chicago native and now an undefeated pro. Stoxen treated him for a rotator-cuff problem and the lingering effects of a ruptured Achilles tendon. Diaz now trains in Stoxen’s facility. “He has been very, very helpful,” Diaz says. “He has developed my strength, he has taught me how to use weights—what can I say more about him, my strength has actually increased since I have been working with him, and I’m actually hitting a lot harder and feel a lot more powerful and I’m actually a little faster than I was before. I wasn’t in this kind of shape in the Olympics”
Rehabilitation and Training Combined for you! Traditional boxing trainers have advised their athletes to stay away from weights in the past as they believed it would increase bulk and slow them down and it makes it difficult for the boxer to make weight. Team Doctors incorporates very unique advanced strength and conditioning techniques, which focus on building power and speed in the midsection. “Training the midsection for power and speed allows our fighters to have a huge increase in power by linking the legs to the trunk without increasing weight, because the abdominal wall muscles are ‘strap-like’ and don’t add a lot of weight when trained the right way,” Stoxen says. “We train upper body through unique 6 direction mid section training techniques which are performed suspended from air, standing, seated but never on the floor on your back.” This revolutionary training concept was first introduced to the masses by another one of Stoxen’s celebrity patients, fitness guru and AB-Doer inventor, John Abdo.
No Sit Ups! EVER!
“We never do one sit-up,” Stoxen says. “We can’t increase speed with situps and we can’t increase power by just using the patients upper body weight as resistance. I don’t advocate floor sit-ups—unless a boxer plans on fighting from his back,” Stoxen adds with a smile. “This is sport-specific training which is training that is intended to supplement their boxing or other sports training. We will never teach boxing technique. We leave the boxing training to the boxing experts like Sam Colona, George Hernandez and the others.”
Weight Loss and Nutrition!
Many of Stoxen’s boxers who have won national titles at the same weight for years have started competing in lower weight classes with more power and speed than ever before at the amazement of their boxing trainers. Even though the athletes train 3 – 4 hours of cardio a day for years, if a body fat analysis shows an athlete has enough fat to lose to safely and enough time to loose it in we set up the plan of how to loose the weight safely and quickly before the next fight. We work with the body’s natural hormone cycles, primarily growth hormone. We don’t advocate drugs, diuretics or stimulants. When the eyes close the growth hormone levels surge for one hour. During that one hour the body rebuilds muscles that were trained that day. If protein is readily available in the system and sugar levels are lower, we feel the body is forced to burn fat as a fuel to carry through this process. A lot of energy is needed for this recovery process. Contrary to the old way of thinking that you should never eat before bedtime we recommend our athletes eat a protein-rich meal to feed building muscles to allow the muscle building and fat burining effects to occur. If you don’t feed muscle at the right time, repair and recovery will be starved and the body will break down healthy muscle to repair trained muscle, leaving the athlete weakened.”
Healthy Weight Loss!
“This is a healthy weight loss because no athlete is starving. They are eating well. Within a month or so they can be a weight class lower while they maintain or even increase their power and speed without out drying out with dangerous diuretics, starving or other unhealthy eating habits that can leave the athlete weakened at the time of competition. Boxers and boxing trainers love these results.”
