A message from Dr James Stoxen DC Dr James Stoxen DC and Miguel celebrating in the ring after the fight in Miami
Its been a long road for Miguel and I over the last 4 years. I remember when he first came to us back in the day. He had to get prepared for the Chicago Golden Gloves tournament.
Treatment
I remember the work we had to do on his joints to remove all restrictions from muscle spasms related to the abnormal biomechanics. He never missed an appointment and everything I told him to do, he did. I remember his body weight being 220 with a large body fat percentage.
Diet
We recomended that he get off the high glycemic carbohydrate diet and get on a diet rich in greens and proteins and fats. He agreed and in fac t he put his entire family on the new diet. His bodyweight went from 220 to 160 in 3 - 4 months
Strength and Conditioning
I remember the speed weight training we put Miguel on. He was excited to do the abdominal training. I remember when I asked him to do the hanging abdominal laterals for his obliques. He did 2 and came back to the ground. He said "lets see you do it" and after 100 or so I said "You have a lot of work to seeing that you are a 20 something year old professional athlete and Im a 40 year old doctor.
Inconsistancy but Consistant
Since that time he has come and go from the center depending on his mood but when he comes he knows the result is always better. Why? Its because the treatments make his performance better and the strength and conditioning helps him hit harder and last longer in the ring.
The Title Fight
The proof is in the win of the WBC USA Middleweight Title. His opponent, "Dangerous" Ryan Davis had 220 amateur fights to Miguel's 9 amateur fights. Davis was 19 - 4 and Miguel was 18 - 3. When the fight came I was there watching. Miguel put on a hell of a fight and so did Davis. Personally I thought Miguel was conditioned better than he performed. I thought he could have done better. I heard the anouncer came up to Miguel and said "I dont know what you did but your conditioning was amazing.
My feelings
Finally after all these years. Its a nice feeling to know you have so much to do with the success of another person. I get a good feeling when I help guys like Miguel win. I just wish more of them would stick it out like him. We could have had so manyh more champions!
There's more to come from Team Doctors!
Stay tuned for our next fight, April 15th, 2006 when Andrei Arlovski, "The Pit Bull" defends his world title against Tim Silvia in UFC #59 in Los Angeles, California
